Former Deputy Speaker of the Abia State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Ifeanyi Uchendu, has drawn reactions online after sharing a post, accompanied by photographs, describing his meeting with Senator Orji Uzor Kalu in London, with some commenters questioning the optics of the meeting while others weighed in on the senatorial race for Abia North.
In the post, Uchendu wrote, “Yesterday, I had the privilege of meeting with His Excellency, the former Governor of Abia State, and the Senator representing Abia North, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu in London. It was a memorable and inspiring meeting with a man whose years of experience in public service have given him a deep understanding of governance and leadership.”
He continued, “As the 2027 election approaches, this is a time for Nigerians to look beyond noise, personal ambition, and political desperation. We should carefully examine the records, experience, competence, character, and achievements of every candidate before making our decisions.”
Uchendu went further to state his personal position on the senator, writing, “In my personal opinion, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu is a politician with considerable experience and knowledge of how government works. His long journey in public service has given him valuable insight into the challenges facing our people and our country.”
He closed the post with a general appeal to the electorate, writing, “My advice to everyone is simple, let us make our political choices based on facts, performance, experience, and genuine commitment to the people. Elections should be about ideas, development, accountability, and our future. Leadership is a serious responsibility, and the people deserve leaders who understand the job and are prepared to serve. May God bless Abia North, Abia State, and Nigeria.”
Arochukwu Blog gathered that the post, which showed Uchendu and Senator Kalu smiling together in a series of photographs, drew 41 reactions, 36 comments and was shared twice.
Reactions to the post were mixed. Mazi Ukonu Orieke commented, “Talking about records, experience, competence, character and achievements of every candidate in the 2027 general elections, especially in the presidential election, Nigerians know who to vote for. All we need is a free, fair and credible election come January 2027.”
Sunday Kalu, however, pushed back strongly against the endorsement, commenting, “His time is up, we want to fix Abia North. Old things are passed away, behold a new Voice, a new hope and a new commitment to sustainable, quality delivery of democratic dividends to the good people of Abia North. Chief Dr David Ogba Onuoha Bourdex is the man for the job come 2027. Senator Orji Uzo kalu should voluntarily give way for progress if he truly love Abia state.”
Johnson Iroegbu responded in support of the senator, commenting, “Abia North is okay with distinguished Senator OUK. We are electing OUK again for more dividend’s of democracy.”
Other commenters questioned the setting of the meeting itself. Gabriel Kalu asked, “How can you guys be ruling the Nation/people away from home and expect to rule/lead well. Come down home and live with the people then you will understand their cry and by then you can judge whether you guy is leading well or not, forget about this social media praise singers they know the truth but fail to say it for the fear of losing the peanut they are getting.”
Daniel Chidi Ajike Udo similarly questioned the post, commenting, “When you make post like this I laugh, what exactly has the experience and years in politics done for nde Abia North? You live abroad travel around world and you experience what other world leaders are doing to better the lives of their people yet you encourage mediocre in our state in the name of party and politics. May God run una family the way una dey run the masses lives.”
Kalu Joseph commented, “Abia north open your eyes PDp APC sorry nothing good can come out of the best way with p v c here we go again LP All the way,” while Francis Kalu wrote, “Is like you are now staying in London permanently because you keep meeting formers, those your formers have no meaning to Nigerian.”
Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, a former Governor of Abia State, has represented Abia North Senatorial District in the Senate since 2019 and secured the All Progressives Congress (APC) ticket for re-election in May 2026.
