El-Rufai Declares Battle Against Tinubu: “We’ll Send Him Back to Lagos in 2027
Former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has openly challenged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, revealing that a formidable political coalition is in the works to unseat the President in the 2027 general elections.
Speaking at the Arewa Tech Fest in Katsina on Wednesday, El-Rufai disclosed that he is actively involved in a strategic alliance aimed at ensuring Tinubu does not secure a second term.
“We’re forming a coalition to make sure President Tinubu returns to Lagos in 2027,” El-Rufai announced to a cheering crowd. “That’s why I couldn’t travel with the organizers yesterday. We had a crucial meeting at 8pm that delayed me.”
The event, which celebrated digital innovation and entrepreneurship in Northern Nigeria, attracted tech leaders, investors, and budding startups.
El-Rufai, who recently defected from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to the Social Democratic Party (SDP), has rapidly emerged as a central opposition figure. His defection earlier this year sent shockwaves through the political establishment and signaled a serious realignment ahead of the next presidential election.
During his remarks, El-Rufai also lauded the Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, Bosun Tijani, calling him a standout performer who would retain his position under a new administration.
“We’ll keep Bosun Tijani,” El-Rufai said. “He’s doing excellently well.”
His comments have intensified speculation about his political intentions and suggest a clearer shape for the opposition landscape as the 2027 elections approach.
