The African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Rivers State has announced a significant increase in its membership, which has now surpassed 800,000, following the defection of several high-profile political figures.
At a press conference in Port Harcourt over the weekend, party spokesman Luckyman Egila described the ADC as “a beautiful bride” attracting key politicians ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Egila confirmed that two former governors of Rivers State, Rotimi Amaechi and Celestine Omehia, have officially joined the ADC, along with Prince Uche Secondus, the former national chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). The new members have all completed their registration and been issued membership cards.
In addition to Amaechi, Omehia, and Secondus, other prominent figures such as former Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Chief Austin Okpara, and former Minister of Transport, Dr. Abiye Sekibo, have also joined the ADC.
“These are influential figures in Rivers State politics, and their presence strengthens the ADC’s position as we prepare for the coming elections,” Egila stated, signaling the party’s growing influence in the region.
