BREAKING: Former Buhari Minister Audu Ogbeh Dies at 78, Barely a Month After Buhari’s Passing

Chief Audu Ogbeh, the former Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, has passed away at the age of 78, just one month after the death of former President Muhammadu Buhari, whom he served under. Ogbeh, who died on Saturday, August 9, 2025, leaves behind a legacy of dedication, integrity, and service to Nigeria.

In a statement, his family shared their sorrow, saying, “He departed peacefully, leaving behind a legacy of integrity, service, and dedication to our nation and community. We are comforted by the many lives he touched and the examples he set.”

They also requested privacy during this time of mourning and noted that details of the funeral arrangements would be provided in due course.

Ogbeh was a prominent figure in Nigerian politics, serving as PDP chairman from 2001 to 2005 and holding the position of Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development under the late President Buhari’s administration. He had also served as the Minister of Communications during the Shehu Shagari administration in the 1980s and as Deputy Speaker of the Benue State House of Assembly in the late ’70s.

His death, coming just weeks after the loss of President Buhari, marks a profound moment in Nigeria’s political history.
