Governor Alex Otti Shuts Down Miracle Centres, Launches AbiaFirst Education Initiative
Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, has announced the closure of several examination malpractice centres, commonly known as “Miracle Centres,” across the state. He stated that his administration is committed to providing a conducive learning environment for children in Abia.
The governor made this known on Wednesday in Umuahia during the launch of AbiaFirst, an educational innovation program aimed at transforming the state’s education system.
He emphasized that his administration has been addressing the decline in the education sector, which was a major concern under previous governments. “I am, however, glad that several steps have been taken in the last twenty months to address the malaise of exam malpractices in most parts of the State, leading to the closure of several outlets designated as Miracle Centres,” Otti stated.
He further highlighted key educational reforms, including improved teachers’ welfare, the recruitment of 5,000 new teachers, and the rehabilitation of schools, all geared toward producing a future generation of leaders for the state.
In his welcome address, the Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Elder Goodluck Ubochi, described the AbiaFirst initiative as a bold step toward re-imagining the education system in the state. He noted that the program focuses on quality teaching, improving basic education, reforming secondary schools, integrating digital learning, and enhancing career education and skills development.
The initiative is expected to bring lasting reforms to Abia State’s education sector, ensuring students receive quality education in a more structured and accountable system.
