Calls Grow for Peter Obi to Pick Senator Natasha Akpoti as 2027 Running Mate
As the 2027 presidential election draws nearer, conversations about potential running mates for prominent political figures are already gaining traction online. One of such suggestions has sparked debate across social media, particularly on X (formerly Twitter), where a user urged Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, to consider Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan as his running mate.
The suggestion, posted by @roqzee, described Natasha as a vibrant and capable leader, asserting that her presence on the ticket could shake the nation’s political landscape.
The post read:
“Dear @PeterObi, if you decide to run in 2027, you are still the best option among the miserable alternatives available. And if you want to shake the country to its very foundation, make Senator @NatashaAkpoti your running mate. Nigeria deserves youthful, vibrant leadership on the global stage.”
The tweet has since sparked a flurry of reactions—some supportive, others critical.
One user, @Ayoksy, countered the idea, saying:
“Anyone with brains will know that the only ticket that can challenge APC is Atiku/PO. But the impulsive and illogical Obidients will not open their eyes to see this.”
Another, @V_O_AKwaIbom, was clearly not in support:
“Make Natasha Akpoti your running mate and lose my precious vote.”
In contrast, @cableanalyst expressed strong support:
“I swear, I’ll be at the polling unit by 5 a.m. on that election day. And if I’m not in Nigeria, I must come back home to vote.”
Meanwhile, @MURPHYDREAD criticized what he termed “online madness,” questioning the practicality of the idea:
“Do you know how many local governments are in Kano and the population of people who don’t even know her? Some of you just sit in your rooms and think Twitter is Nigeria.”
Another user, @683Ez, pointed out that Senator Natasha may be more politically strategic than Peter Obi, saying:
“She seems a bit more politically astute, which can balance the equation. But the effort it would take to bring them into power is something no one has seen before.”
Not everyone was sold on the vision. @diepole stated:
“It’s laughable that we’re still trying to convince northerners who aren’t ready to vote for PO, and now you want to wrap everything up for him by picking a lady from North Central as his running mate. What a joke.”
Finally, @Faruqish raised concerns about religious balance, saying:
“I like this Christian-Christian ticket by those who condemned the Muslim-Muslim ticket.”
As 2027 approaches, the question of who runs with Peter Obi—should he decide to contest again—will no doubt remain a hot topic. For now, however, the conversation is just getting started.
