Amaechi Vows to Defeat Tinubu in 2027 if ADC Nominates Him, Challenges Rigging Allegations
Former Rivers State Governor, Rotimi Amaechi, has declared his intention to defeat President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election if the African Democratic Congress (ADC) nominates him over ex-Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, and former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar.
In a bold statement during an X Spaces conversation on Saturday, Amaechi confidently claimed he knows Tinubu well, including both his strengths and weaknesses. “If allowed to fly the flag of ADC, I will defeat Tinubu for sure,” Amaechi asserted, stating he has never engaged in election rigging and has consistently refused offers to participate in the APC’s election planning committees.
“I tell you, I’ve not had an election against Tinubu. I know Tinubu very well. I know his strengths. I know his weaknesses,” he added, emphasizing that he has always declined to be involved in the APC’s election planning activities. “I challenge any politician, living or dead, to come forward and say I was part of rigging.”
Amaechi also pointed to the widespread electoral malpractice in Nigerian politics, particularly involving state governors and the diversion of public funds through government agencies. “They will bring governors. They will go to government agencies and get money, but the rest, I don’t want to say it until I win the primaries,” he revealed.
Despite these allegations, Amaechi stressed his commitment to fair elections. “I will never participate in any rigging whatsoever, and I will not do it. What I promise to do now, going forward, is to stop rigging,” he vowed. He further challenged anyone to provide evidence of his involvement in election manipulation, adding, “I challenge any Nigerian to produce evidence that I participated in any election rigging, and I will apologize for that.”
Amaechi also addressed the 2023 election results in Rivers State, acknowledging that Peter Obi won in the state but stated that the official results were different, although he claimed to have no idea how the discrepancy occurred.
With the 2027 elections on the horizon, Amaechi’s statements have added fuel to the already intense political race, positioning him as a key figure in the opposition’s efforts to challenge the ruling APC.
