A Nigerian father has sparked outrage after reportedly marrying off his 13-year-old daughter to a man as a gesture of gratitude for healing him during an illness.
The disturbing revelation came via a post shared on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter), where the young girl recounted her experience. In the video, she explained that her father, who had fallen ill, was taken by a friend to a man who helped him recover. Later, the man showed interest in marrying her after seeing her in her school uniform.
Although the girl expressed her disapproval, stating she was not in support of the arrangement, her parents allegedly sided with the man, who was considered a “helper” to the family. At the time, she was in JSS2 (Junior Secondary School 2) and only 13 years old. She later revealed that the situation continued even after the marriage, and she was eventually taken to the man’s house, despite her resistance.
The girl, now 16, described her feelings of discomfort and confusion about the situation, which has continued since she was 13. The man, when confronted, claimed that he was misinformed about her age, insisting that he had been told she was 20 years old.
The incident has led to widespread condemnation online, with many calling it a case of child abuse. Social media users expressed their anger, highlighting the gravity of the situation, while others questioned how such a marriage could occur without legal repercussions for those involved.
Authorities are urged to intervene, with many demanding justice for the young girl and accountability for those responsible for this reprehensible act.
