FG Sues Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan Over Alleged Defamatory Remarks on Live TV
The Federal Government of Nigeria has filed a defamation lawsuit against Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, who represents Kogi Central in the National Assembly, over statements she allegedly made during a televised broadcast.
The suit, filed on May 16, 2025, at the Federal Capital Territory High Court, is registered as CR/297/25 and lists Akpoti-Uduaghan as the sole defendant. According to court filings, the government accuses the senator of deliberately making remarks intended to damage an individual’s reputation, in violation of Section 391 of the Penal Code, Cap 89, Laws of the Federation, 1990. The alleged offense is punishable under Section 392 of the same law.
Among the prominent figures expected to testify as prosecution witnesses are Senate President Godswill Akpabio and former Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello, signaling the high-profile nature of the case.
