Omoyele Sowore, the African Action Congress (AAC) 2023 presidential candidate, has sharply criticized former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, over his recent claim that he would end corruption within one month if elected president in 2027. Sowore, reacting to Amaechi’s statement made during a discussion on 𝕏 Space, described the former governor of Rivers State as “a fool at 40,” pointing out that Amaechi had held multiple significant political positions for over two decades without addressing the corruption problem.
Amaechi had declared, “If I become President, I will change the constitution from indigeneship to citizenship. If I do not end corruption in Nigeria within one month, I will tender my resignation.” He also took a swipe at the current FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, challenging him to walk through the streets of Port Harcourt to prove who is truly loved by the people.
In response, Sowore, in a video posted by SaharaReporters, condemned Amaechi’s words, stating that despite his long tenure as Speaker, Governor, and Minister, he had failed to curb corruption. “Amaechi has been a Speaker for eight years, governor for eight years, and Minister for eight years, making it 24 years. If you deduct 24 from 60, what do you say? A fool at 40 is a fool forever,” Sowore remarked.
Sowore also warned Nigerians to be cautious of politicians like Amaechi, who he said are only out to deceive the masses. He added, “They are all deceiving you. Yes, we have alternatives, and we will participate, but we are not bound by one alternative because we don’t have time on our side. The clock is ticking.”
The AAC candidate also touched on the toll Nigeria’s current state has taken on its youth. “There are some Nigerian youths that, when I see them, I’m 54, and when I see them they say they are 24. I ask, are we the same age? Because the system has made them not look their age anymore,” he said, highlighting the challenges young Nigerians face under the current leadership.
Sowore’s remarks underline the growing dissatisfaction with the country’s political leaders and their inability to address the corruption and economic issues affecting the nation.
