Protest in Turkey As Mosque Renamed After Osimhen

A mosque in Konya, Turkey, has become the center of controversy after it was mistakenly listed on Google Maps as the “Victor Osimhen Mosque,” sparking outrage among local worshippers. The mosque, originally named Bulut Mosque, saw its title altered, leading to a wave of criticism from the local Muslim community.

Locals expressed their dismay over the name change, with some describing it as a disrespectful act towards Islam and the mosque community. Zeki Yaylacı, a member of the mosque, voiced his frustration, saying, “It’s a shame to name a non-Muslim and make a mockery of it. We consider it an insult to Muslims, the mosque community, and mosques themselves.”

The name change appears to be the result of unauthorized user edits on Google Maps, and there is no evidence linking Nigerian footballer Victor Osimhen to the incident. Osimhen, who has recently moved to Galatasaray from Napoli, was reportedly absent from the match against Gaziantep as he works to regain full fitness. The timing of the controversy coincides with Osimhen’s return to Turkey, following his transfer saga.
