In response to recent concerns regarding the integrity and safety of beauty pageants in Abia State, the Executive body of the Pageant Guild Nigeria, Abia State Chapter, convened with the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor of Abia State on Tourism and Entertainment, Dr. Justice Martins, to discuss the future of pageantry in the state.

The meeting, led by Amb. Afrique Jessey Umah-kalu, the President of the Pageant Guild Nigeria, Abia State Chapter, aimed to address the government’s recent decision to ban beauty pageants in the state. The SSA emphasized that the government’s intentions were positive, seeking to sanitize the pageant industry and protect participants from exploitation such as sexual abuse, molestation, and extortion.

Amb. Umah-kalu, on behalf of the association, pledged their support to the government’s efforts in eradicating these negative elements. The Secretary of the Guild, Eng. Chukwuemeka Nwandu, reiterated the Guild’s commitment to upholding the industry’s integrity and aligning with the government’s objectives.

As a result of the meeting, a task force will be established to ensure that all pageant organizers in Abia State join the Pageant Guild Abia State. Failure to comply will result in consequences, including legal repercussions for those operating below set standards. The task force will monitor activities to ensure compliance with the state’s pageantry regulations.

The Pageant Guild Nigeria, Abia State Chapter, expressed its dedication to working closely with the Abia State Government to transform the pageant industry. Their goal is to promote youth development, tourism, and revenue generation while upholding the highest standards of integrity and safety within the state’s pageant industry.

This collaborative effort between the government and the Pageant Guild Nigeria marks a significant step towards ensuring safer and more responsible pageantry in Abia State.
