Senate Appoints Orji Kalu as Chairman of South-East Development Commission
The Senate has appointed Senator Orji Uzor Kalu as the pioneer Chairman of the Senate Committee on the South-East Development Commission (SEDC), a newly established regional commission signed into law by President Bola Tinubu.
Kalu, a former governor of Abia State and current Chairman of the Senate Committee on Privatisation, is expected to lead the commission in addressing key developmental challenges in the South-East, including infrastructure improvement, erosion control, security restoration, and civil restitution.
Senator Ken Eze was named Vice Chairman of the committee, while additional members will be announced later. Meanwhile, the Senate has confirmed the 18-member board of the SEDC, led by Dr. Emeka Nworgu as Chairman and Hon. Mark Okoye as Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer.
