Umuahia, Abia State – August 17, 2025:
The Global Women Director of the Igbo Global Network (IGN), Nnenna N’mma Lancaster-Okoro, Esq., popularly known as N’mma Abia, has urged Nigerians to take full advantage of the forthcoming voter registration exercise to obtain their Permanent Voter’s Cards (PVCs), describing the act of voting as both a civic responsibility and a powerful instrument for shaping the future of the nation.
Addressing journalists in Umuahia on Sunday, August 17, 2025, Lancaster-Okoro reminded Nigerians that the PVC registration exercise officially commences on Monday, August 18, 2025. She stressed that no citizen should remain passive while others make decisions that affect the collective destiny of the country.
“Your vote is your power. Your PVC is not just a card, it is your voice, your right, and your key to deciding who leads you. For too long, our silence has been taken for weakness. It is time we rise and take responsibility for our future by registering and voting in 2027,” she declared.
Lancaster-Okoro, a lawyer and advocate for women’s rights, warned that societies where citizens neglect their civic duties often face poor governance and a lack of accountability. She appealed to youths, women, professionals, traders, and members of the Nigerian diaspora to see voter registration not as a routine exercise but as a patriotic duty essential for national progress.
According to her, widespread voter apathy remains one of the greatest threats to Nigeria’s democracy and must be confronted if the nation is to enthrone leaders of integrity, competence, and genuine commitment to the people.
“The time for excuses is over. The future of Nigeria belongs to those who show up. Let no one intimidate you, let no one deceive you that your vote doesn’t count. Every single vote matters. If millions of us rise to register and vote, change is inevitable,” she said.
Lancaster-Okoro concluded her message by calling on Nigerians to spread awareness within their families, communities, and networks. She noted that the 2027 general elections will not just be another political cycle, but a defining moment in Nigeria’s democratic journey.
