Abia Investigation Panel Submits Report on Suspended College Provost

The investigative panel established by the Abia State Government to probe the administration of Professor Vincent Onwe, the suspended provost of Abia State College of Education (Technical), Arochukwu, has submitted its report.

The panel, chaired by Professor Regina Ogbonna, presented the report to the Secretary to the Abia State Government, Professor Kenneth Kalu, represented by the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Ikechuckwu Uwanna. Professor Ogbonna stated that the panel, tasked with specific terms of reference, completed its assignment within the stipulated 21 days. She noted that the team conducted physical and virtual meetings, reviewed memoranda, and interviewed key individuals to finalize the report. Ogbonna thanked Governor Alex Otti for the opportunity to serve, highlighting the panel’s commitment to a thorough investigation.

Receiving the report, Professor Kalu described the inquiry as a “delicate task” requiring intellect, integrity, and adherence to due process. He commended the panel for their diligence and commitment to truth, assuring that the government would use the report’s recommendations to guide its next steps.

The Abia State Commissioner for Tertiary Education, Professor Uche Eme-Uche, praised the committee for their dedication despite external pressures, expressing gratitude for their comprehensive work.

Professor Onwe was suspended in April 2025, prompting the state government to constitute the panel to investigate allegations surrounding his tenure as provost. The submission of the report marks a significant step in addressing the issues at the institution.
