Arochukwu illustrious son and philanthropist, Sunday Chibuzo Okereke, has been confirmed as the Labour Party’s presidential candidate for the 2027 general election, following the release of the Independent National Electoral Commission’s final list of presidential candidates and running mates.
The list, signed by INEC Secretary Rose Oriaran-Anthony and released on Saturday, September 12, 2026, confirms Okereke, 43, as the Labour Party’s flagbearer, running alongside Hajja Bintu Konto as his vice-presidential candidate, ahead of the January 16, 2027 presidential election.
Arochukwu Blog gathered that Okereke’s emergence on the final list has generated excitement within Arochukwu, with residents describing his candidacy as a historic moment for the community, as he becomes one of the highest-profile indigenes of the town to contest for the nation’s highest office.
Okereke is one of 18 presidential candidates confirmed on the final list, alongside incumbent President Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC), former Vice President Atiku Abubakar of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), and former Anambra State Governor Peter Gregory Obi of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), among others.
As campaigns intensify ahead of the 2027 general election, attention within Arochukwu is expected to remain on Okereke’s candidacy as the race for the presidency continues to take shape nationally.
