Senate President Godswill Akpabio has filed a lawsuit against Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan over a Facebook post he alleges was meant to ridicule him.
The suit was lodged on May 7, 2025, at the Federal High Court in Abuja, in response to a sarcastic apology shared on social media by the suspended senator representing Kogi Central.
According to court documents filed under suit number CS/384/25, Akpabio is seeking a court order compelling Senator Natasha to delete the post from all her social media platforms. He is also demanding a formal written apology to be published in at least two national newspapers, along with an affidavit confirming compliance with these demands.
The controversial post, which appeared online on April 27, was styled as a mock apology. In it, Natasha directly addressed Akpabio, sarcastically “apologizing” for exhibiting independence and dignity in a political environment she implied rewarded submission over merit. She concluded the post with an exaggerated expression of remorse for choosing integrity over personal gain.
Akpabio’s legal team, headed by Kehinde Ogunwumiju, insists the post violated a court directive issued on April 4, which ordered both parties to refrain from making public statements regarding the ongoing sexual harassment case involving them. The lawyers argue that Natasha’s comments disregarded the court’s instruction and amounted to contempt.
