Former Commissioner for Finance in Abia State, Prof Phillips Nto, has endorsed the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for Arochukwu/Ohafia Federal Constituency, Chief Ikenna Ukwa, for the 2027 general election, declaring that the constituency needed a change following what he described as unproductive and ineffective representation over the last 12 years.
Nto, a former APC senatorial aspirant in the state and former Provost of Abia State College of Education, Technical, Arochukwu, said that after a careful evaluation of candidates across political parties, Ikenna Ukwa stood “shoulder high” amongst them.
According to him, Ikenna Ukwa has proven himself to be a worthy representative of the people even before being elected. He noted that Ikenna Ukwa has empowered youths with skills and tools for self-employment, and has gone further to drill boreholes and install solar lights in various communities making up the federal constituency.
He said the popularity of Ikenna Ukwa has reflected in school children referring to him as the authentic representative of the people, even ahead of the election. He also praised Ikenna Ukwa’s respect for elders and leaders of the APC in the state, saying he is fit for the position both in character and exposure.
Prof Nto strongly criticised past representatives of the constituency in the House of Representatives, saying their impact was never felt by the people over the last 12 years. “We have been in the political desert in the last 12 years, and now is the golden opportunity for us to right the wrongs of the past,” he said.
He specifically criticised the incumbent representative, Osonwa, who was elected in 2023 on the wave of Peter Obi’s presidential campaign, describing his time in office as a failure to the people. “It is inconceivable that a man who can’t even move a motion for the past four years wants to go back to continue sleeping on the job. We should not allow that charade to continue,” he said.
Prof Nto said Ikenna Ukwa would offer effective and efficient representation for the people of the federal constituency, in addition to continuing his empowerment programmes for youths. He urged the people of Arochukwu/Ohafia Federal Constituency to vote for Ikenna Ukwa at the next election, and to support all APC candidates, including President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, in the 2027 general election.
