Cheryl Zondi, a pivotal witness in the case against the senior pastor of Jesus Dominion International (JDI), was overcome with emotion in court after the Nigerian clergyman was acquitted of charges including rape and human trafficking.
On April 2, 2025, the High Court in Gqeberha, Eastern Cape, South Africa, ruled in favor of the 66-year-old pastor and his co-accused, Lusanda Sulani and Zikiswa Sitho, dismissing all 32 counts of racketeering, trafficking in persons, rape, and sexual assault.
The decision, which left many shocked, visibly affected Zondi, who struggled to contain her tears in response to the verdict.
In 2018, Zondi, who had accused pastor Omotoso of sexual assault, courageously waived her right to anonymity in the trial, hoping to expose the true nature of the pastor. Reflecting on the experience, she shared the emotional toll the trial took on her, describing how the process stripped her of her dignity as she faced public humiliation, false accusations, and relentless online abuse.
