Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, has instructed his Senior Special Assistant on Legislative Matters to provide him with documents related to the anti-open grazing law passed by the previous House of Assembly.
Governor Otti emphasized that he is among those who firmly believe that cows should not be allowed to roam freely and destroy farmers’ crops.
He made this statement on Wednesday at the Government House in Umuahia during his monthly media chat for April.
The governor mentioned that if the law against open grazing was indeed passed by the previous administration’s House of Assembly, his government would review it and take necessary steps to implement it.
“Let’s confirm that it was passed. If it was, we will pick it up from there,” Otti said.
“I am a strong proponent of anti-open grazing. We’ve moved beyond the days when cows roam freely, destroying crops. Even modern cattle species don’t need to wander like that.”
Regarding security, Governor Otti shared that the gunmen responsible for killing two Chinese nationals in Abia last month were from Ebonyi State. He also informed journalists that security agencies have apprehended some suspects, and investigations are ongoing.
The governor also announced that President Bola Tinubu will visit Abia State before May 29. Additionally, he revealed that his administration had reduced the N138 billion debt inherited from the previous government to N66 billion, a feat he attributed to fiscal discipline.
