Political Shake-Up in Ohafia As Hon. Ifeanyi Uchendu Leads Mass Defection from PDP to APC
Ohafia Local Government Area in Abia State is witnessing significant political realignment as Rt. Hon. Ifeanyi Uchendu, former Deputy Speaker of the Abia State House of Assembly, recently announced his defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC). Alongside this move, many members of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in the area have reportedly followed suit, raising questions about the PDP’s presence in Ohafia.
In a post obtained by Aro Okeigbo Blog from his official Facebook account, Rt. Hon. Ifeanyi Uchendu stated:
“In Ohafia Local Government, there is no longer a PDP presence. I have successfully convinced all former PDP members to join the All Progressives Congress (APC). The only people left in the PDP here are a small group of close associates, often referred to as a ‘committee of friends.’ This shift has greatly strengthened the APC’s position in the area. I, Rt. Hon. Ifeanyi Uchendu, former Deputy Speaker of the Abia State House of Assembly and a dedicated APC chieftain, have played a central role in making this transition happen, solidifying the APC’s influence in Ohafia.”
The PDP, which has historically enjoyed strong support in Abia State, appears to be facing challenges in maintaining its influence in Ohafia. Some analysts view this trend as part of a larger political restructuring in the state, while others believe it may simply reflect Hon. Ifeanyi Uchendu’s personal political strategy and influence.
As the 2027 elections draw closer, the political dynamics in Ohafia are likely to attract further scrutiny. Whether this move will mark a permanent shift in the region’s political allegiance or serve as a temporary trend remains to be seen.
