VIDEO: Alleged Incompetence—Doctor in Owerri Reportedly Uses YouTube Tutorial for Surgery, Leading to Death of Pregnant Woman and Baby
A tragic incident has sparked outrage after an alleged unqualified doctor in Owerri, Imo State, reportedly relied on a YouTube tutorial to perform surgery on a pregnant woman, resulting in the deaths of both the mother and her baby.
The grieving husband, identified as Onyekachi Eze from Ebonyi State, is now demanding justice for his late wife. According to his account, the lead doctor called in another individual to assist with the operation. However, before the assistant arrived, the doctor and his colleagues were allegedly seen watching YouTube videos during the procedure.
Renowned comedian and human rights activist Ajemba Stanley has condemned the incident, emphasizing concerns over the increasing reliance on online videos by individuals posing as experienced medical professionals.
Speaking through tears, the bereaved husband recounted the shocking scene: “In the operating room, I saw them pressing their phones, watching YouTube to learn how to perform the surgery.”
The incident has drawn widespread criticism, with many calling for stricter regulations and enforcement in the medical sector. Social media users have also weighed in, with one user, @Ralphdegrea8, stating: “This is likely an unlicensed doctor, possibly a medical school dropout. People must ensure that the hospitals they visit are accredited and approved by the Nigerian Medical Council.”
Authorities are yet to release an official statement regarding the incident, but pressure continues to mount for an investigation and legal action against those responsible.
