A public commentator, Dms Emeka Baron, has directed a pointed question at Hon. Ibe Okwara Osonwa, member representing Arochukwu/Ohafia Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, over what he described as over 10 years of darkness in Abam Onyerubi.
In a post shared on Facebook under the title “A Question From Umu Abam Onyerubi,” Baron wrote, “Today, the entire Abam Onyerubi is asking one question that can no longer be silenced: Hon. Ibe Okwara, a Member representing Arochukwu/Ohafia Federal Constituency, what are you doing for Abam?”
He continued, “For over 10 years, Abam Onyerubi has been in total darkness. No electric poles. No light. No power to run businesses. Our communities that once had light have been abandoned to darkness for a decade. Is this fair? Is this justice?”
Addressing the lawmaker directly, Baron wrote, “Honourable Ibe Okwara Osonwa, you are our son. You are the man we voted for, the man carrying the mandate of Arochukwu and Ohafia. When you speak in Abuja, you speak for us. When development comes, it should reach us too. But today, if you come to Abam Onyerubi, what will you show as your impact? Where are the electric poles? Where are the transformers? Where are the constituency projects that should have brought light back to your own people?”
He went on to describe the economic impact of the blackout on the community, writing, “Our youths have left. Our economy has collapsed. Artisans, welders, barbers, cold-room owners, tailors – all have packed their tools and left Abam because there is no light to work. Our mothers suffer. Our children read with torchlight.”
Baron questioned why Abam Onyerubi had been left behind despite its size within the constituency, asking, “Honourable, why is Abam still in darkness? Why have we been neglected for over 10 years? Why is it that other communities are getting attention while Abam Onyerubi, a major bloc in Arochukwu/Ohafia, is left behind?”
He clarified that the post was not intended as an attack on the lawmaker, writing, “This is not an insult, Honourable. This is a cry from your people. We are not your enemies. We are your voters, your brothers, your sisters, your mothers and fathers. Leadership is about presence. Leadership is about impact. We need you to come home. Come and see Abam Onyerubi with your own eyes. See the darkness we are living in.”
Baron specifically called on the lawmaker to engage relevant agencies to address the situation, writing, “We are calling on you, Hon. Ibe Okwara Osonwa, to rise and fight for the restoration of electricity in Abam Onyerubi. Liaise with the Federal Government, the NDDC, the Rural Electrification Agency, and His Excellency Governor Alex Otti. Bring light back to Abam.”
He closed the post with a final appeal, writing, “Because history will remember what you did for your people when they needed you most. And right now, Abam Onyerubi needs light. Abam cannot be in darkness for another 10 years. Honourable, your people are waiting for your answer.”
Hon. Ibe Okwara Osonwa has represented Arochukwu/Ohafia Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives since 2023, having been elected on the platform of the Labour Party.
