In a recent development that has stirred controversy within the Arochukwu community, Eze Aro Mazi Godwin Kanu Idei has vehemently condemned the conferment of the chieftaincy title “Okpu Chineke Aro” on his junior brother, Nwamazi Pastor Eberechukwu Oji, by Mazi Amos Ngwu of Ibom village, Arochukwu.
During a press briefing held at his palace, Eze Aro expressed deep disappointment and shame towards his junior brother’s decision to accept such a title from an individual lacking traditional or cultural significance in Arochukwu. He emphasized the gravity of the situation, stating that Nwamazi Pastor Eberechukwu’s actions are tarnishing the esteemed kingly lineage and bringing ridicule upon their heritage, all in a misguided pursuit of attaining the Eze Aro status.
Eze Aro stressed that the conferment of chieftaincy titles is considered an abomination in Arochukwu tradition, a sentiment echoed by the disrepute surrounding past titles such as Ugwu Aro and Ikenga Aro bestowed by Nzuko Aro. He urged his junior brother to rectify his misdeeds by appeasing the gods of the land promptly, cautioning against the dire repercussions of his actions.
Moreover, Eze Aro denounced Mazi Amos Ngwu as a notorious scammer with a history of duping unsuspecting individuals in Ibom village. He revealed that Ngwu’s fraudulent activities extend to the fabrication of meaningless titles, further exacerbating the situation. Eze Aro highlighted Ngwu’s audacity in seeking validation for the title from influential figures, including a meeting with the commissioner for chieftaincy affairs in Abia State, as evidence of his deceptive practices.

Eze Aro reiterated that only individuals with the rightful authority, such as Eze Ibom Isii, Dr. Kanu Nwa Kanu, have the prerogative to confer the esteemed title of Eze Aro. He warned against the consequences of usurping such sacred traditions, emphasizing the need for immediate measures to appease the gods and restore honor to the Arochukwu community.
He therefore called on Umu Aro to remain calm, peaceful and prayerful even in the face of confrontations while expressing optimism that nothing can break us as a Kingdom as this ugly phase will still pass away and be history..
