In a strategic move aimed at fortifying its political base, the Young Progressives Party (YPP) in Abia State has called on former members of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) to join their ranks. This call was made during a recent stakeholders meeting held at Guaver Eateries in Amaekpu Ohafia, where party leaders gathered to discuss the future direction of the YPP.

Addressing the attendees, Hon. Dr. Stephen Ukpai Ohafia, the YPP House of Representatives candidate for Arochukwu/Ohafia Federal Constituency in the 2023 elections, expressed his gratitude for their continued support despite the electoral setbacks. “It’s with a heart full of joy that I welcome you all to this great gathering of our dear party to think and strategize a way forward,” he said.

Hon. Ohafia emphasized the importance of unity and collective action to advance the party’s goals and the broader interests of their constituents. He urged the members to consider the benefits of either strengthening their current party structure or merging with other political entities to enhance their influence.

In a significant part of his speech, Hon. Ohafia solicited opinions on supporting the state government led by Governor Alex Otti and his deputy, Engr. Ikechukwu Emetu. He also called for backing President Bola Tinubu and Vice President Alhaji Shettima, as well as other key political figures such as Federal House of Representatives member Hon. Chief Ibe Okwara Osonwa and Senator Orji Uzor Kalu. “As law-abiding citizens and a political party with great ideologies of infrastructural development, good governance, and human capital development, we are committed to supporting our leaders who have been elected to represent the people,” he stated.

The meeting concluded with Pastor Success Okorie moving a motion to adopt Hon. Dr. Stephen Ukpai Ohafia as the leader of the YPP in Arochukwu/Ohafia Federal Constituency and Engr. Enyinnaya Nwafor as the state leader of the party. Additionally, a call was made for former PDP members to join forces with the YPP to create a stronger political entity for the betterment of Abia State and Nigeria at large.
