Chief Ibe Okwara Osonwa, the representative for Arochukwu/Ohafia Federal Constituency, has conveyed his heartfelt sadness following the death of Hon. Adewunmi Oriyomi Onanuga, the Deputy Chief Whip of the House of Representatives.
Hon. Onanuga, who served the Ikenne/Sagamu/Remo North Federal Constituency in Ogun State, passed away on Wednesday, January 15, 2025, after a short illness.
In his tribute, Rep. Osonwa praised Hon. Onanuga as an outstanding legislator whose dedication to public service and legislative excellence left a lasting impact on the National Assembly.
“Hon. Adewunmi Onanuga was a compassionate and devoted leader, deeply committed to her constituents. Her death is not only a loss to the House of Representatives but to the entire country. She will be greatly missed,” said Rep. Osonwa.
Born on December 2, 1965, Hon. Onanuga was first elected to the House in 2019 under the All Progressives Congress (APC). She chaired the House Committee on Women Affairs and Social Development during the 9th Assembly, where she advocated for women’s empowerment and social welfare reforms. Re-elected in 2023, she served as the Deputy Chief Whip in the 10th Assembly.
Rep. Osonwa offered his condolences to Hon. Onanuga’s family, the people of Ikenne/Sagamu/Remo North Federal Constituency, and the entire National Assembly, praying for her soul’s peaceful repose and comfort for all who grieve her passing.
