Patience Jonathan Holds 15 Domestic Staff in Prison Without Trial Since 2019 Over Alleged Missing Jewelry

In a clear breach of Nigeria’s constitutional provisions on the presumption of innocence, former First Lady Patience Jonathan has kept 15 of her domestic staff imprisoned at the Okaka Correctional Centre in Bayelsa State since 2019 over an unproven robbery case.

The workers have languished in jail without a court conviction, as their trial has been delayed multiple times, allegedly due to the influence of the former First Lady.

The detained individuals include Williams Alami, Vincent Olabiyi, Ebuka Cosmos, John Dashe, Tamunokuro Abaku, Emmanuel Aginwa, Erema Deborah, Precious Kingsley, Tamunosiki Achese, Sunday Reginald, Vivian Golden, and Emeka Benson. The remaining three—Boma Oba, Salomi Wareboka, and Sahabi Lima—are not pictured.
