The Niger Delta Congress (NDC) has announced plans to hold a peaceful protest on Monday, April 7, 2025, in reaction to the suspension of Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara and the State House of Assembly. The protest is scheduled to begin at 7:00 AM at Isaac Boro Park, Port Harcourt, and aims to demand the reinstatement of democratic rule in the state.
In a press release dated April 3, the NDC strongly condemned the imposition of a state of emergency and the removal of duly elected officials, describing it as a direct assault on democracy and the people of Rivers State.
Mudlaga Ogboru, the National Spokesperson of the group, stated that such actions disregard the will of the people and endanger peace and stability in the Niger Delta.
The NDC called on citizens to come out in solidarity, emphasizing that the protest would be peaceful and lawful. The group also highlighted the urgency of defending democratic values amid the deepening political crisis in the state.
As Rivers State grapples with rising tensions and constitutional concerns, all eyes are now on Monday’s protest and the potential outcomes it may trigger.
